Vidal tops Cuisine Magazine Merlot Tasting

Vidal Estate’s Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 has been awarded Top NZ Merlot, and Best Buy in the September edition of Cuisine.

The wine which also picked up a Gold award at the Royal Easter Show this year is bursting with rich black plum, cassis and cedar, the palate’s long smooth finish is supported by supple tannins.

Winemaker Hugh Crichton was ecstatic about the win stating: “This classic Hawkes Bay blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec reflects the great strides the region has taken toward the goal of producing wines that speak of place and that reflect underlying elegance and balance, attributes increasingly looked for by consumers. To produce such wines within Hawkes Bay, a region experiencing a growing international recognition is fantastic and it reinforces our strong belief of the suitability of this region for quality wine production.”
