Vidal Winery Restaurant wins Signature Dish Award
26 October 2011
As part of the Hawkes Bay Regional Signature Dish Awards, Vidal Winery Restaurant has won the Judges Choice Award in the Formal Category.
The six week competition saw 36 Hawke's Bay chefs cook-off with the goal of creating "Hawke's Bay on a plate" for the affections of a panel of mystery judges, and votes from the general public.
The winning dish was a Roast Denver leg of venison and sausage with coponata, pinenut gnocchi, red wine and chocolate jus.![]()
The iconic Hastings winery restaurant won the judges’ taste buds with this venison dish described as being “delicious with the caponata on the side, very rich in flavour with the syrah jus complementing the venison beautifully”.
Thirty six participating restaurants entered the Signature Dish competition in three categories, formal, casual and café and for the past six weeks they have been cooking up specially created regional signature dishes for the Hawke’s Bay public and visitors. The winners were announced at an Awards ceremony in front of more than 200 people from the hospitality industry at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House.
Congratulations to Head Chef Jillene Slui and the Vidal Winery Restaurant team!
